What is Divisibility Rule of 6 ?

A number is divisible by 6 if it is divisible by 2 and 3 both.

In other words, the last digit of the given number is even and sum of its digit is multiple of 3. Then, the number is divisible by 6.

Example 1

Check if 68 is divisible by 6 or not.
Solution:

To check if 68 is divisible by 6 or not, we need to check the last digit of given number 68 is even and sum of its digit  is multiple of 3 or not.

Here, given  number is 68. So, last digit 8 is even. it’s sum of digits is 14 which is not multiple of 3.
So, 68 is not divisible by 6.

Example 2

Check if 264 is divisible by 6 or not.
Solution:

We need to check if the last digit of given number 264 is even and sum of its digit is multiple of 3 or not.

Here, given number 264 is even and sum of it’s digit is 12 which is multiple of 3.

So, 264 is divisible by 2 and 3 both.
Hence, 264 is divisible by 6.

Example 3

Is 24591947 is divisible by 6 ?
Solution:

We need to check if the last digit of given number 24591947 is even and sum of digit is multiple of 3 or not.

Here, given  number is 24591947 and it’s last digit is 7 which is not even number.

So, According to divisibility rule of 6, 24591947 is not divisible by 6.
