Divisibility Rule of 12 with Examples | Check Divisibility by 12

In this article, we will learn about divisibility rule of 12 with example. i.e. We will see how to check if any number is divisible by 12 or not.

What is Divisibility Rule of 12 ?

A number is divisible by 12 if the given number is divisible by 3 and 4 both.

Example 1

Check if 609 is divisible by 12 or not.
Solution:

We have to check whether 12 is divisible by 3 and 4 both or not.
Here, given number 609, is divisible by 3 but not by 4 because last two digit of 609 is not divisible by 4.

Therefore, 609 is divisible by 3 but not by 4.
So, 609 is not divisible by 12.

Example 2

Check whether 5820 is divisible by 12 or not.
Solution:

Divisibility rule of 12 states that given number is divisible by 12 if it is divisible by 3 and 4 both.

Now, first we check whether 5280 is divisible by 3 or not.

Sum of given number = 5 + 2 + 8 + 0 = 15

And 15 is divisible by 3.

Now, we will check wether 5280 is divisible by 4 or not.

According to divisibility rule of 4, any number is divisible by 4 if the last two digit of a number is divisible by 4.

Here, 80 is divisible by 4.

So, the given number 5280 is also divisible by 4.

Hence, it is clear that 5280 is divisible by 3 and 4 both .

Therefore, 5280 is divisible by 12.

Example 3

Is 1910 is divisible by 12 ?
Solution:

Divisibility rule of 12 states that given number is divisible by 12 if it is divisible by 3 and 4 both.

Now, first we check whether 1910 is divisible by 3 or not.

Sum of given number = 1 + 9 + 1 + 0 = 11

Since 11 is not divisible by 3, 1910 is not divisible by 3.

Since number should be divisible by 3 and 4 both, 1910 is not divisible by 12.
