Divisibility Rule of 18 with Examples | Check Divisibility by 18

In this article, we will learn about divisibility rule of 18 with example. i.e. We will see how to check if any number is divisible by 18 or not.

What is Divisibility Rule of 18 ?

A number is divisible by 18 if a number is divisible by 2 and 9 both.

  1. Divisibility Rule of 2 – For divisibility by 2 the last digit of a number ends with 0, 2, 4, 6, 8.
  2. Divisibility Rule of 9 – For divisibility by 9 the sum of the digits of the number is divisible by 9.

Example 1

Is 63234 divisible by 18?
Solution

According to divisibility rule of 2, here, last digit is 4 so this number is divisible by 2 .

For divisibility rule of 9, the sum of total digit of a number is divisible by 9, then the number is divisible by 9.

Here, sum of digits= 6 + 3 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 18 and 18 is divisible by 9.

Hence, the number 63234 is divisible by 18.

Example 2

Check if 244,176 is  divisible by 18 or not.
Solution:

Divisibility rule of 18 states that a number is divisible by 18 if it is divisible by 2 and 9 both.

Here, number is 244,176 and it’s last digit is 6. So, it’s divisible by 2. Now, sum of digits are 2 + 4 + 4 + 1 + 7 + 6 = 24 and 24 is not divisible by 9. Hence, 244176 is not divisible by 18.

Example 3

Is 1315 divisible by 18?
Solution:

We need to check the divisibility rule of 18. A number is divisible by 18 if it is divisible by 2 and 9 both.

Here, last digit of the number 1315 is 5 and 5 is not divisible by 2. Hence, given number, 1315, is not divisible by 18.

Example 4

Is 54172 divisible by 18?
Solution:

We need to check the divisibility rule of 18. A number is divisible by 18 if it is divisible by 2 and 9 both.

Here, the last digit of the number 54172 is 2 which is divisible by 2. The sum of number 54172 = 5 + 4 + 1 + 7 + 2 = 19 and 19 is not divisible by 9. Then, 54172 is not divisible by 9. Hence, 54172 is not divisible by 18.
