In this article, we will learn about divisibility rule of 2 with example. i.e. We will see how to check if any number is divisible by 2 or not.
What is Divisibility Rule of 2 ?
A number is divisible by 2 if the last digit of that number is either 0 or 2 or 4 or 6 or 8.
Example 1
Check if 128 is divisible by 2 or not.
Solution:
As per divisibility rule of 2:-
We need to check if the last digit of given number, i.e. 128, is 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 or not.
Here, last digit of 128 is 8.
So, 128 is divisible by 2.
Example 2
Check if 163 is divisible by 2 or not.
Solution:
As per divisibility rule of 2:-
We need to check if the last digit of given number, i.e. 163, is 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 or not.
Here, given number is 163 and it’s last digit is 3.
So, 163 is NOT divisible by 2.
Example 3
Is 24591947 is divisible by 2 ?
Solution:
We need to check if the last digit of given number, i.e. 24591947, is 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 or not.
Here, given number is 24591947 and it’s last digit is 7.
So, 24591947 is NOT divisible by 2.
Example 4
Fill the lowest possible digit in the blank space so that number is divisible by 2.
- 4569_
Solution: As per divisibility rule of 2, any number is divisible by 2 if it’s last digit is either 0 or 2 or 4 or 6 or 8. So, we can add either 0 or 2 or 4 or 6 or 8 in blank space.
Hence, possible digit in place of _ can be 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8.
Here, 0 is smallest . So, correct answer is 0. Thus, number will be 45690. - 875_2
Solution: As per divisibility rule of 2, any number is divisible by 2 if it’s last digit is 0 or 2 or 4 or 6 or 8.
Here, last digit of number 875_2 is already given.
So, we can put any digit (from 0 to 9) in place of blank space. Since 0 is smallest, correct digit in place of _ is 0.
Thus, number will be 87502.
