In this article, we will learn about divisibility rule of 14 with example. i.e. We will see how to check if any number is divisible by 14 or not.
What is Divisibility Rule of 14 ?
A number is divisible by 14 if that number is divisible by both 2 and 7.
Example 1
Check if 128 is divisible by 14 or not.
Solution:
Here, given number 128 is divisible by 2 as per divisibility rule of 2 because it’s last digit is even number.
It is also divisible by 7 as per divisibility rule of 7.
So, 128 is divisible by 14.
Example 2
Check if 163 is divisible by 14 or not.
Solution:
We need to check if the given number 163 is divisible by both 2 and 7.
As per divisibility rule of 2 – 163 is not divisible by 2.
As per divisibility rule of 7 – 163 is not divisible by 7.
Hence, 163 is NOT divisible by 14.
Example 3
Is 24591947 is divisible by 14 ?
Solution:
We need to check if the given number 24591947 is divisible by both 2 and 7.
As per divisibility rule of 2 – 24591947 is not divisible by 2.
To be divisible by 14, number should be divisible by 2 and 7 both. So, 24591947 is NOT divisible by 14.
Example 4
Is 1372 divisible by 14?
Solution:
As per divisibility rule of 2 – 1372 is divisible by 2 since last digit is even number.
As per divisibility rule of 7 – 1372 is divisible by 7.
As per divisibility rule of 7 – Double the last digit of the given number and subtract it from the remaining number. Then, if the result is 0 or a multiple of 7, the given number is divisible by 7.
Here, given number is 1372.
Double the last digit = 2 × 2 = 4.
Now, subtract it from remaining number 137 – 4 = 133 is divisible by 7.
Hence, 2372 is divisible by 14.
